Mary Beth Hartleb is a board member, pet parent, and donor who supports Heaven Can Wait Animal Society. We asked her about animal welfare needs in our community and why she decided to get involved with our mission to increase access to veterinary care.
When did you get involved with HCW?
I was looking for volunteer opportunities in animal welfare. It has always been a cause close to my heart. When I was invited to join the board, I welcomed the opportunity to serve and support HCW.
What attracted you to HCW's mission?
Having been a lifelong pet parent of cats and dogs, I understand the importance of maintaining their good health through regular veterinary care, staying current with vaccinations and opting for spay/neuter procedures. I do not think financial constraints should get in the way of proper health care for our pets. HCW fills that gap in our community allowing pets to stay in their adopted homes.
Why do you volunteer/donate?
Volunteerism has been a part of my life since I was a child. I also like to support the communities in which I work and live. The ability to give back and help others is part of who I am, and I receive much joy in doing so.
Of what contribution or achievement are you most proud?
I am proud of the many opportunities I have been afforded to assist various organizations and causes, but I am most proud of working in partnership with HCW to create The Romeo Fund.
What do you hope HCW will achieve in the short term? In the long term?
I hope that HCW continues to receive the recognition and support from the community for the great work HCW does, and that people understand why the mission is so important. I hope to see continued growth and evolvement of the organization.
What other organizations or causes do you support?
Currently, I a volunteer with Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the Henderson Chamber of Commerce and previously have served on several boards of non-profit organizations.
Do you have any other messages or thoughts to share?
Our pets are a gift of unconditional love. They deserve the best care and when adopted, that commitment should be for a lifetime. Through HCW programs, including The Romeo Fund, financial constraints are no longer a barrier to veterinary care and allowing pet parents to adopt pets for life.
