Rachel Bergren

Exciting times are on the horizon for Heaven Can Wait Animal Society as we proudly announce the arrival of our new Executive Director, Rachel Bergren. A lifelong animal advocate and seasoned leader in the world of animal welfare, Rachel brings a wealth of experience, passion, and a vision for the future that aligns seamlessly with our organization's mission.

In her role as Executive Director, Rachel will be at the helm, guiding our operations, spearheading development initiatives, implementing strategic plans, and steering us towards the fulfillment of our charity's vision, mission, and financial objectives. Her commitment to preventing unnecessary euthanasia and improving the quality of life for cats and dogs through spay/neuter services, quality veterinary care, community outreach, and advocacy resonates deeply with our core values.

“I’m thrilled to be working with the team at Heaven Can Wait Animal Society to continue being a wellness resource for lifesaving veterinary care throughout the valley,” Rachel expressed. “I am deeply honored to step into this role and look forward to making a meaningful impact in the lives of animals and their families.”

Rachel's journey as an animal advocate began early on, rooted in her academic pursuits. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University in 1995, followed by a Master of Science degree in Biology from Western Illinois University in 2005. This solid foundation laid the groundwork for her impactful career in the world of animal care and conservation.

Her impressive resume includes over a decade at the renowned Shedd Aquarium in Illinois, where she cultivated her passion and expertise. Rachel then took on the role of Vice President of Education for Chicago’s esteemed Lincoln Park Zoo, refining her leadership and community engagement skills at one of the nation's most recognizable cultural institutions for animal welfare.

Following her time in Chicago, Rachel ventured to Sausalito, California, where she contributed her talents to The Marine Mammal Center—the world’s largest marine mammal rehabilitation, scientific research, and education facility. Most recently, she served as the Executive Director for Get Outdoors Nevada, showcasing her proficiency in nonprofit leadership and environmental sustainability.

But Rachel is more than just an animal lover; she proudly declares herself a “nature nerd” and has dedicated her career to inspiring others to connect with and care for wildlife and wild places. Her holistic approach aligns seamlessly with Heaven Can Wait Animal Society's commitment to preventing unnecessary euthanasia and creating a harmonious balance between humanity and the animal kingdom.

As we embark on this exciting new chapter with Rachel at the helm, we invite our community to join us in welcoming her with open arms. Together, under Rachel's leadership, we are poised to reach new heights in our mission to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change in the lives of animals throughout Southern Nevada.

Let's embark on this journey together, as Heaven Can Wait continues to be a sanctuary of compassion, care, and commitment to the well-being of our furry friends. Welcome aboard, Rachel Bergren!
