16-Year-Old Colony Cat, Olive, Finds Sanctuary After Someone Dumps Oil on Her… Twice!

December 5, 2023 by Cole and Marmalade

Olive, the 16-year-old tuxie, was a long-time community cat in southern Nevada. Although she was a favorite in the neighborhood, someone decided to be cruel to her more than once.

An atrocious excuse for a human poured some sort of cooking oil over the cat’s fur on a hot day. ‘Olive Oil,’ perhaps the mean-spirited (to put it mildly) person thought, as they derived twisted pleasure from the vicious act. But whatever their deeply-rooted psychological problem, the oil on Olive’s fur meant she needed immediate rescue and a deep cleaning.

Cats who get oil on their fur can’t properly groom and can sicken themselves from trying to lick it off. If it’s motor oil, it can poison the cat as they try to remove the substance. Without intervention, outdoor cats can be in real trouble fast, especially an older cat like this one.

After being doused in oil, she approached a kind man, being “extra friendly” and meowing as she sought help.

Strangely, it wasn’t the first time somebody had decided to torture this cat by pouring oil over her in the neighborhood. It had happened once before! But this time, she would not be going back to her community since rescuers could not allow her to remain in danger.

A kind rescuer, Nathalie, rushed to rescue her after a gentleman in the neighborhood texted for help. The senior lady then went to Heaven Can Wait Animal Society in the Las Vegas area. They shared what happened when the greasy cat arrived at their Community Cat Clinic.

A Gentle, Loving Bath with Dawn

Three kind souls, Nathalie, Rachel, and Jane, bathed Olive with the tried-and-true solution, Dawn dish soap. You can see how much they adored her, and she was so friendly with them as they did their lifesaving work!

“This old girl has been the queen of her neighborhood for over a decade, lovingly watched over and cared for by a caretaker since she appeared. 🐱 Even so, 16-year-old Olive has struggled through some difficult times.”

“She was found covered in some kind of cooking oil. Her caretaker reached out online for help, and she was brought to our Community Cat Clinic. 💙” Heaven Can Wait Animal Society shared.

Olive Finds a Safe Sanctuary

All cleaned up again, Olive recovered with lots of TLC. However, her safety in her outdoor home was clearly in doubt. Fortunately, Silver Whiskers Feline Rescue reached out to offer her a purrmanent sanctuary.

“We reached out and offered to take Olive into the sanctuary. Olive also has a bent tail and slight difficulty walking, likely from previous trauma. In spite of all she’s been through, she is the sweetest old girl ever! She is currently receiving top of the line care at our vet clinic, and will be fully worked up,” they shared.

Thanks to supporter’s donations, they gave this wonderful kitty a new lease on life. Now, she’ll spend her Golden Years without facing abuse ever again.

“Welcome Olive, to the SWFR Family! You will now be living your best life with the best humans & kitties ever!” said Jacquie Brown.
